Street Terrorization Oversight Protection (STOP) is an entity within HAND that monitors, calls out, & holds accountable the excessive use of force that City authorities weaponize daily against folx on the streets. Check out the full & only archive of Denver street terrorization interviews on our social media:
This week, we highlight these street interviews:
Woman shares about continual police harassment in the area around 22nd & California. She tells how security tell them to move 3feet from the wall, & then police come & tell them they are obstructing if they do (of note the building they are sitting by is vacant). She tells how police come & wake them by kicking their feet early in the morning. She tells how the city trash crew comes with the police & trashes their property. Two other individuals sitting nearby join in to tell of property the city has taken from them in sweeps – including a best friend’s ashes. During the interview, police roll up & tell us not to block the sidewalk, but roll on as we video them – which people there said is because of us videoing, as they would normally stop & harass more.
Watch Police Roll-by After Cruelty Testimonies
Police roll up on houseless people on sidewalk immediately searching them from drugs & ticketing two people for drug paraphernalia. The cop points to the sign about sidewalks being clear, but fail to note the hours end at 1pm – which it is far before the time of this contact. Note, this man being ticketed asked us to continue filming. Also note how when the man tells of the card he has regarding health needs, the cop admits the judge will likely just dismiss it in court.
Watch Police Useless & Unlawful Ticketing
Man ticketed in last video with police shares what happened. He notes that police rolled up & asked to see their hands but had no probable cause to search them. He also notes how, with his medial card, the paraphernalia charge will likely be dismissed in court – as has happened for him before. So police went to all this just to send him to court for nothing. Note: this is during the DEA crackdown the Mayor just announced.
