Community Connection
Community Connection is a publication of the Los Angeles Community Action Network. Following the tradition of all major social movements, LACAN created a community-based newspaper with the sole purpose of telling the whole story from the perspectives of those living it. The newspaper shares LACAN’s philosophy that people are best suited to tell their own stories; therefore, all stories are written by LA CAN members and supporters. The Community Connection is LACAN’s rendition of the North Star, the Liberator and other historical examples of community-based press used to advance social change. The paper is published every two months.

Homeward Street Journal
Homeward Street Journal has been publishing since 1997 as a project of the Sacramento Homeless Organizing Committee, which is a member of the Sacramento Housing Alliance. The paper’s mission is to alleviate miscommunication between the homeless and non-homeless communities by educating the public about housing and poverty issues, and by giving homeless people a voice in the public forum. Homeward also informs homeless people of shelter and occupational assistance, and acts as a creative self-help opportunity for those individuals who wish to participate. Of utmost importance is the vendor program and the individuals that distribute the paper to the public.

Street Roots
Street Roots is a nonprofit, grassroots newspaper that assists people experiencing homelessness and poverty by creating flexible income opportunities. Through education, advocacy and personal expression, we are a catalyst for individual and social change. Street roots, published in Portland, Oregon, has been Portland’s flagship publication addressing homelessness and poverty since 1998. The paper is published every two weeks.

Street Sheet
The Street Sheet is a publication of the Coalition on Homelessness, San Francisco. Every two weeks, the Street Sheet reaches 32,000 readers through 230 homeless or low-income vendors, who are not made to pay for the papers that they receive, and who keep all money they earn through Street Sheet distribution.

Street Spirit
Street Spirit is a publication of the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) that reports extensively on homelessness, poverty, economic inequality, welfare issues, human rights issues and the struggle for social justice. For the past 15 years, Street Spirit has been dedicated to empowering poor and homeless people and giving a voice to the voiceless, at a time when the voices of the poor are virtually locked out of the mainstream media.

The North American Street Newspaper Association
NASNA is a nonprofit trade association of street newspapers throughout North America. NASNA is the regional support network of the International Network of Street Papers which consists of 110 papers in 40 countries and growing. NASNA has 31 members, 23 in the United States and 8 in Canada and there are new street papers looking to get started soon.
International Network of Street Newspapers
INSP supports street papers worldwide to create employment for homeless people. The network connects over 100 street newspapers in some 40 countries and supports new projects in developing countries.
