Denver, CO. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Emergency Press Conference TODAY Ahead of Scheduled Sweep of Migrant Encampment

May 3, 2024 by Jonathan Leave a Comment

Emergency Press Conference TODAY Ahead of Scheduled Sweep of Migrant Encampment

Members from the unhoused migrant community, alongside Housekeys Action Network Denver, Colorado Palestine Coalition, and Students for a Democratic Society, will be hosting an urgent press conference TODAY, at 4:30pm, at a migrant encampment that is scheduled to be swept next week on May 8th.

This press conference is to reveal the heightened police harassment that this migrant camp has faced while seeking more stable opportunities in a racist and unwelcoming political landscape, and the impossible choices they are faced with that lead them to camp to survive. This mirrors the foreboding threat the students at the Auraria protest camp are simultaneously facing while defending the rights of Palestinians to exist – and of course, the continued displacement and persecution of Palestinian lives in Gaza.

This press conference will address the solidarity between the two sister encampments, the mutual aid and support between them, and the on-going fight for the rights of black and brown people under governments, both local and federal, that choose profit and war over the needs of our most vulnerable.

Details are below:
Date: May 3 2024
Time: 4:30 pm
Location: Migrant Encampment in Denver

The recent decision by the Denver City Council not The recent decision by the Denver City Council not to fund shelters for unhoused families has significant implications for the community. This action not only jeopardizes the safety of vulnerable children but also raises critical questions about local governance and social responsibility. We must advocate for housing justice and support policies that protect the rights of all community members. #HousingJustice #CommunityAdvocacy #SocialResponsibility #Denver #Unhoused
