Dear City Council,
We wanted to re-send you all the attached letter regarding sweeps of houseless people and their property when it is freezing cold – when we first sent this letter on Dec 12th there were 30 organizations signed on and now there are 40 organizations. These organizations are all asking that Council take action to stop this inhumane practice of sweeping people under 32 degrees.
These past weeks houseless people have continued to lose property and suffer serious health effects as sweeps have taken place in freezing 20 degree weather. Last Wednesday a camp was swept in 20 degrees when residents’ tents froze to the ground, damaging their tents as they were forced to rush in pulling them from the ice. Residents were freezing and stressed as they were pushed by City workers to move as fast as possible.
Please hear the cry from the streets to stop this inhumanity.
