After YEARS of waiting, it’s finally here! Wood Street will have it’s local premiere on Sunday, May 31 at 1pm, as part of SF Doc Fest!
Wood Street is a feature documentary about the long-standing encampment community on Wood Street in West Oakland. The film follows two community leaders, John Janosko and LaMonté Ford, as residents organize against eviction, and try to preserve the community they built there.
We’re partnering with the filmmakers to give away three free tickets to the premiere. You can enter to win a free ticket by participating in our contest via Instagram. Here’s how:
Step 1: Comment on the Instagram post linked above. Let us know you’re participating.
Step 2: If you haven’t already, follow @streetspiritnews and @woodstmovie.
Step 3: Buy a physical copy of Street Spirit May 2026 from your vendor & post a photo with the paper (OUT IN THE STREETS!) to your Instagram story. Tag @streetspIritnews & @woodstmovie with the name & location of the vendor you bought it from.
