March 31st is International Trans Day of Visibility, a day for the trans community to share joy in being trans. Created in 2009 as a Facebook post calling for trans people around the world to have celebrations for the trans community, it has grown into an Internationally recognized day by every major LGBTQIA+ organization. This year Trans Empowerment Alliance (T.E.A.), Housekeys Action Network Denver, Lunch Punks, Mutual Aid Monday, Families United in Necessity and Dignity (F.U.N.D.), and C.U.S.P. decided that we need to have a celebration for our houseless transgender community!
On Tuesday March 31st at 6PM we will be doing exactly that. Come join us in La Alma Park for a celebration of our houseless trans community. We will be having a Market of Trans people selling things like art, food, and crafts among other things, with all the proceeds going directly to the people themselves. We also will be having speeches from houseless and formerly houseless trans people, music, a gender affirming clothing swap, and an all around good time.
This idea came to us while talking about how quickly it is becoming more and more difficult, if not downright dangerous to be transgender in this country. States are passing anti-trans laws at an alarming rate! So far in 2026, 113 national anti-trans bills are under consideration in congress, and 740! Different anti-trans bills across multiple states! Two bills recently made it onto the November ballot here in Colorado. Denver is known as a Sanctuary City for trans people. States as close as Kansas and Oklahoma are passing some of the most draconian anti-trans legislation. Idaho just passed a bathroom bill that carries a 5 year jail sentence, just for using the bathroom that aligns with your gender expression. These draconian laws are causing many trans people to pack up what they can carry and come to Denver! This is where the problem comes in, many are coming here with nowhere to go, and are ending up on our streets!
Please join us as we look to uplift, and empower our houseless trans community, and celebrate their resilience, and strength, and let them know that Denver cares about them, and is fighting for them!
