This is a reminder to join the End Poverty Tows Coalition on tomorrow, June 17 at City Hall for a rally at noon and public comment at 1 PM in Room 400, 4th floor for the SFMTA Board of Directors meeting (Flyers in English, Spanish, and Portuguese attached and here). Here is an action guide with talking points that you can use for public comment.
As many of you know, the End Poverty Tows Coalition has been working in solidarity with RV residents to prevent the displacement of families with children, seniors and people with disabilities. Mayor Lurie introduced a piece of legislation that aims to address vehicularly housed residents. The plan includes a 2-hour parking restriction citywide for oversized vehicles that will start Fall 2025 and will lead to tickets, fines, and tows of RV residents’ homes. At the SFMTA Board meeting tomorrow, the Board will be voting on the first part of Lurie’s plan, which creates a parking permit for people living in RVs to temporarily exempt them from the 2-hour parking restrictions. This permit will only be for people in the City’s database, only last for 6 months, only can be extended once, and can be revoked if RV residents refuse any offer of services. Please join us tomorrow to push for amendments to the MTA legislation and opposition to the 2-hour parking restrictions (which will be voted on at the Board of Supervisors next month).
