Hello Friend,
San Francisco’s budget is a statement of its values. The city is in a deficit and vital community-based services, including domestic violence resources, emergency rental assistance, and other essential services, are being slashed.
At the same time, the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) racked up $108 million in overtime last year. Now, the Board of Supervisors is proposing to give an additional $90 million in overtime funding for SFPD and the Sheriff’s office.
But here’s the thing: an audit of police overtime use showed widespread abuse. Officers routinely violate overtime limits, exploit their sick leave, and put the safety of themselves and the public at risk.
This is not safety. This is an injustice. No more funding for a broken system.
Here are three ways you can help. 👇🏻👇🏽👇🏿
• 📝 Send a letter to the Board of Supervisors to tell them that you oppose additional overtime funding to SFPD and the Sheriff’s department.
• 💻 Join me on Monday, April 28 at 6:30 p.m. for an info session to learn more about the findings in the police overtime audit and how you can take action.
• 📢 Rally with us on Wednesday, April 30 at 1:00 p.m. then join the Budget & Appropriations Committee Hearing at 1:30 p.m. to give public comment in opposition to this proposal.
