Denver, CO. HAND Updates, Community Meeting, and Homeless Advisory Meeting

June 22, 2022 by Jonathan Leave a Comment

Hello Fighters for Rights and Housing!

This past 2 weeks we did in-depth interviews on housing. The stories and direction we gathered through this is powerful! We are compiling our housing research from our work with DU and pushing forward with entering the data from our housing surveys…!

On Monday HAND member Jerry Burton led an educational presentation on Juneteenth and why it matters today for the houseless community! Watch some of it live steamed here https://fb.watch/dPanImnI-i/

Also on Monday City Council voted to approve Tax Increment Financing for the All Inn Motel to turn it into a luxury hotel and kick out all the houseless people living there now. HAND members spoke to oppose this appalling destruction of badly needed emergency housing! City Council approved this luxury takeover of this critical low-income motel two weeks after votig to exclude these same poor people from their “expanding affordable housing” bill.

Thanks to Candi CdeBaca, Robin Knish, and Paul Kashman voting against this proposal.

This Wednesday (today!) is our bi-monthly Housekeys Action Network Denver Community Meeting! These meetings happen every 2nd and 4th Wednesday at 4:30pm at 1420 Ogden St in the basement. There is food. All are welcome! Especially inviting all who are houseless, formerly houseless, or on the edge of being houseless!

Most importantly, the Homeless Advisory Meeting is …

1 to 3 p.m. Friday, June 24

Twentieth Street Recreation Center

1011 20th St. Denver, CO 80202

This is a critical meeting to address City officials with needed action for rights and housing! If you are currently or formerly houseless please come! If you are housed and have a vehicle to help give rides let us know!

The recent decision by the Denver City Council not The recent decision by the Denver City Council not to fund shelters for unhoused families has significant implications for the community. This action not only jeopardizes the safety of vulnerable children but also raises critical questions about local governance and social responsibility. We must advocate for housing justice and support policies that protect the rights of all community members. #HousingJustice #CommunityAdvocacy #SocialResponsibility #Denver #Unhoused
