Demand the Reinstatement of the Wall + Response Exhibit Now!
After four months of planning, the San Francisco Public Library (SFPL) decided to cancel a mural exhibition because of its inclusion of the local Clarion Alley Arab Liberation Mural and the phrase “zionism is racism”. For years, the SF Public Library has played a critical role in the lives of working class communities of color in San Francisco. For the library to censor Palestine and abandon their progressive values at a time of heightened displacement, Islamophobia, militarism, and Israeli settler-colonial violence, is particularly appalling.

Censoring a mural that amplifies calls for racial and economic justice contributes to the daily harm BIPOC communities face as a result of structural racism. This is not only harmful, but it is also potentially dangerous; especially at this point in history when there are large factions of the United States banning books that speak to the importance and value of critical thinking and the lived experiences of communities which have and continue to experience racism and oppression. Demand that the SF Public Library stand on the right side of history and reinstate the mural exhibition today.
