This Monday, June 6th, City Council will be voting on the ‘Expanding Housing Affordability’ proposal. This proposal mandates developers build a small percent of new housing at ‘affordable’ rates and if not that they pay a fee in lieu. However, the standards for affordability, present built affordable, and fees are so low in this proposal that it will not help in the long run. Instead of using this opportunity to mandate real affordable housing, this opportunity is being wasted to protect the status quo.
In this proposal no housing is required to be built under 50%AMI. Our community, in most need of housing, is completely left out of this plan. Rather we were told our people can go to shelters cause this bill can’t make housing for our poor asses.
Come to testify to the City Council Monday June 6th at 5:30pm. Sign up for testimony is from 4:30pm-5:30pm. You can sign up at this link https://www.denvergov.org/Government/Agencies-Departments-Offices/Agencies-Departments-Offices-Directory/Denver-City-Council/Public-Input/Public-Hearings
