VENICE, CA. CALL TO ACTION: VENICE BOARDWALK DISPLACEMENT

May 17, 2021 by Jonathan Leave a Comment

CALL TO ACTION: VENICE BOARDWALK DISPLACEMENT

DETAILS: Join us on TUESDAY, MAY 18TH at the Venice Boardwalk to protest the displacement of unhoused folks living on the Venice Boardwalk.

MEET AT: Dudley & the Boardwalk at 8am, 10am, 12pm, and 2pm.

This is a no arrest, no blockade event. We are there to support unhoused folks and REAL housing solutions.

Folks are being evicted for an “Area Clean Up” on May 18th from 8am – 4pm and for a suspiciously scheduled “Boardwalk Tree Trimming” May 17th – May 28th. The so-called area clean up and tree trimming is part of a process to remove unhoused people living on the Beach in Venice.

But where will people go?! The LAPD is issuing citations in excess, the only shelter in Venice is usually full, and permanent housing is extremely rare.

This action is organized by individual members of the Venice Equity Alliance, Venice Justice Committee, Street Watch LA, Venissance, Services Not Sweeps and more. We believe that displacement is a form of harm. Without a legitimate connection to permanent housing, any offer of temporary shelter may just be a roadmap back to Street Homelessness.

Please view our Call to Action Document for Sample Tweets for our twitter storm today, sample emails to bombard Mike Bonin and Eric Garcetti with, and details about the protest tomorrow.

Can’t make it? You can donate directly to Street Watch here: http://bit.ly/swfunds

You can also purchase supplies for the Westside team from our Amazon wishlist

In earlier emails people spoke about the importance of WRAP. Here is what some of our friends had to say about Paul’s role over the last forty years. https://conta.cc/3vbUnUx
