Sausalito Unhoused Camp Celebrates Victory in Federal Court. Virtual press Conference at 12pm today.

March 2, 2021 by Jonathan Leave a Comment

For Immediate Release
Contact Robbie Powelson, 415-847-7500

Our  camp will be holding a press conference over zoom to talk about next steps after winning our restraining order in federal court against the City of Sausalito, today at 12pm.

In the 16 page ruling, attached below, Judge Chen found the City of Sausalito was utting campers and the public in harm by their intent to evict the camp and ban daytime camping. “The fact that Resolution No. 6009 requires both the move of the encampment and the day camp ban suggests that Defendants’ intent should be viewed as a whole and in context,” Chen wrote. “The two actions taken in tandem raise serious questions whether Defendants were truly motivated by a concern for the health and safety of the Dunphy Park campers in enacting Resolution.”

The camp is now demanding that the city begin to provide porta potties, trash cans, and handwashing stations at the camp.

We also will be reaffirming our intention to hold the Bay Conservation and Development Commission and Richardson Bay Regional Agency for their role in creating this crisis by unlawfully destroying the boat homes of liveaboard mariners on Rainbow Bay.

Individual press inquiries and requests can be made to the media contact person, Robbie Powelson at 415-847-7500.

One of the questions we asked people we love about One of the questions we asked people we love about this continuing forty-year process of addressing the root causes of homelessness in America was recognizing that our comrade Paul has also been fighting this neoliberal bullshit for forty years. In earlier emails people spoke about the importance of WRAP. Here is what some of our friends had to say about Paul’s role over the last forty years. https://conta.cc/3vbUnUx
