This week the City of Denver conducted two SWEEPS (traumatic displacements of residents). Tuesday January 12th the City SWEPT approximately 15 residents from 600 S. Cherokee near Santa Fe and Iowa. Here is a picture of a perfectly good Vespa being trashed by city workers.
At W. Wesley and Galapago near Santa Fe the City of Denver SWEPT approximately 20 residents on Wednesday January 13th. This encampment was very remote, at the end of a cul-de-sac, in a dirt field, next to the highway. You couldn’t possibly be more out of sight. This was also located on CDOT property, which is under the jurisdiction of Governor Polis and the state of Colorado.
This encampment was supported with a porta potty and fire extinguishers and advocacy from Helping Hands for Dignity Coalition.
Here is a picture of Evan Dryer, Mayor Hancock’s Chief of Staff taking the only heating source (propane tanks) from residents.
We will not stop our advocacy efforts until we can stop the SWEEPING of humans to nowhere and secure equitable housing choices for all.
Onward towards Dignity, Right, Housing…..
