Denver, CO. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE COURT GRANTS AG’S MOTION TO DISMISS WRIT OF MANDAMUS REQUESTING THAT THE COLORADO DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH HELP THE HOMELESS DURING THE COVID-19 CRISIS
Denver, CO–Today, the Denver District Court ruled that the Colorado Department of Public Health is not responsible for the public health of Colorado.
Numerous advocacy groups, on behalf of thousands of Colorado homeless, filed a Writ of Mandamus April 1, 2020 seeking a court order that the Colorado Department of Public Health provide safe housing so that the thousands of homeless in Colorado would not contract the deadly virus and further its transmission throughout the state. Attorney General Phil Weiser responded to the Writ of Mandamus by filing a motion to dismiss that the Court granted three months later.
“The institutions that we support with our taxes and depend on to protect us in times of crisis seem to no longer be functioning in this country,” says their attorney, Jason Flores-Williams.
