After three years of litigation that shined a national spotlight on not only Denver’s treatment of people who are homeless, but the rights and dignity of the poor in this country, the U.S. District Court of Colorado is set to approve the landmark settlement that will affect the rights of thousands here in Colorado and set precedent around the nation.
“We made a promise three years ago that we would fight for the dignity of our neighbors experiencing homelessness,” says lead counsel, Jason Flores-Williams. “Now, that we have successfully kept that promise, it is time to enforce it.”
Through this settlement agreement, the city cannot continue to trash and steal the property of people who are homeless. And, together on the streets, we will be vigilant that the property rights from this lawsuit are respected. The next step is community enforcement.
