Around 5am on October 21st, 2016, cops showed up to “move along” a community of about 20 people who have been living on Broadway and Lawrence for the past couple months. This community has been looking after each other – caring for the disabled and hurt, watching each others belongings and backs, bringing food and basic needs to the others in need, and otherwise supporting each other to survive and be safe on the streets.
Many of those in this community cannot go into shelters due to having a pet, having a disabled partner, gender discrimination, and more. In spite of all this…the city continues to send police out to chase this community around the streets…from one block to another…
