DHOL Weekly Updates and Main Meeting 9/21

September 21, 2016 by Jonathan Leave a Comment

SUPPORT DHOL AND OUR HOUSELESS COMMUNITY!
This is the launch of TWO wish lists/fundraisers to help our houseless community! We are collecting survival gear to make sure our community without housing is safe, secure, and comfortable as best as possible, but especially to keep folks warm during the winter. And we are collecting technology gear to more effectively document the sweeps and mistreatment of people without housing, as well as, to strengthen our media capabilities and create a more sustainable and accessible Get Loud Media Platform.
Some of those items include…
Tents, Sleeping Bags, Backpacks…Compact Video Cameras, Memory Cards…
See the full wish list here https://denverhomelessoutloud.org/2016/09/19/support-dhol-and-our-unhoused-community/ and spread the word!

WRAP Needs your support!
For the past three years WRAP member organizations in California, Colorado and Oregon have fought to get our Homeless Bill of Rights – Right to Rest Act legislation introduced and heard in our respective state legislatures.
We are incredibly proud to announce that in 2017 our bill will be running in all three states simultaneously!! This is truly unprecedented.
A sweeping indictment against enforcement of local laws that clearly are (and historically have) been used to remove “certain” people from local communities. Now more than ever we REALLY need your support!!

Rent Control Action September 22!
The People of Colorado are Declaring a Housing State of Emergency: We Demand Rent Control!
Our cities, suburbs, and even rural areas are experiencing a housing crisis. Rent control is illegal on a state-wide level and rising costs are one of the top reasons for displacement and lose of housing.
Residents of communities in Westminster, Aurora, Arvada, Commerce City, Thornton, Denver and more are coming together to demand that the governor and legislators work to overturn the ban on rent control and prioritize anti-displacement strategies. We will be standing in solidarity and partnership with Right to the City’s Homes For All Campaign on this National Day of Action for Renters and Housing. Actions will be taking place in over 40 cities across the nation on this day.
Community members will share their stories during a vigil that will be held in front of the state capitol to commemorate all the families and communities  that have been evicted, displaced, or forced to become homeless during this crisis.
Date: September 22nd
Time: 6:30 PM
Location: We will start at the City and County Building of Denver and end on the steps of the Capitol
Please Join us in this Fight to Take Back Our Cities!
Our Rights on the Block event last Thursday, organized by people living on this block by Samaritan house together with DHOL, brought together about 100 people living outside in this area to learn about the actual laws (as opposed to those named by cops), what is happening with the lawsuit, our rights to film cops, and do some clean up along the block.

In earlier emails people spoke about the importance of WRAP. Here is what some of our friends had to say about Paul’s role over the last forty years. https://conta.cc/3vbUnUx
