City Sweeps People Without Homes From All the Blocks by Lawrence/Broadway/Park Ave. But They Cannot Sweep Away Homelessness…

March 9, 2016 by Jonathan Leave a Comment

Today, March 8th, the City Officials of Denver under Mayor Hancock used an “order of removal” ordinance to enable Public Works to decide what is an “encumbrance.” They used this “law” to force everyone out of the area and take away people’s tarps, blankets, and other belongings (the process for getting belongings back has yet to be tried…so we will see how that actually plays out). Roughly 75 people were displaced from the places they have called home – many of whom for many months or even years. There is no legal option for almost anyone for where to go to. Shelters are not an option so many reasons. The city cannot force people to go into shelters. Many people have moved close to where Resurrection Village has been surviving for the past 5 months. We do not know what  will happen tomorrow….

Thanks sooo much to the hundred plus supporters who showed up through out the day to stand in solidarity with those being displaced and help out in many ways. Many people being displaces told me it meant a lot to them.

One of the many many…news stories on today

The recent decision by the Denver City Council not The recent decision by the Denver City Council not to fund shelters for unhoused families has significant implications for the community. This action not only jeopardizes the safety of vulnerable children but also raises critical questions about local governance and social responsibility. We must advocate for housing justice and support policies that protect the rights of all community members. #HousingJustice #CommunityAdvocacy #SocialResponsibility #Denver #Unhoused
