On Saturday, November 7th WRAP was the beneficiary for the Ships in the Night dance party in Oakland, CA. Ships in the Night is a radical queer dance party that raises money for radical organizations and causes. Ships prioritizes their spaces to queers, women, trans people, people of color and highlight talented Djs and performers. We danced hard at Ships and raised nearly $2000 in doing so! Big shout out and love to the organizers of Ships in the Night and our incredible volunteers who worked the door, stayed up all night with us and were all around all stars!!
At WRAP we understand that the criminalization of poor and homeless people’s existence is accelerated in the intersections of anti-queer violence and transmisogyny. Despite the fact that 40% of all homeless young folks are queer, despite the fact that the majority of trans women of color live drastically under the poverty line, despite the fact that queer and trans people continue to be brutalized inside and out of the shelter system, inside and out of the prison system, by the police every day — we continue to miss how poverty and homelessness are queer issues. Thank you Ships for standing with us! Queer liberation is economic justice!
