Services Not Sweeps Rally Against Criminalization of Homelessness:
Locked Out of the Chambers, Locked Out of the Process
PEOPLES PUBLIC COMMENT
CITY HALL 200 N SPRING ST.
TOMORROW 7/1
9:30am
Since a public hearing was held for Item 76 yesterday, there will be no public comment during the LA City Council meeting tomorrow. In response, we need all hands on deck to show up for our own People’s Public Comment to defeat the criminalization motion that is on tomorrow’s agenda.
In case anyone needs context, yet another version of the draconian LAMC 41.18–the sit, sleep, lie ban–has been rushed through the council in hopes that they can pass this before they go on recess. This version is just as bad as the previous two that we’ve seen, and will make it impossible for unhoused folks to reside near supportive housing, shelters, services, parks, schools, underpasses, etc. It will make what is an already near impossible existence worse.
Bring signs, noise makers, banners, community and energy to shut down the anti-democratic process that went down yesterday in City Council. We need all hands on deck to defeat this criminalization motion. We need everyone to show up tomorrow, and to help spread the word!
Also, please contact your council member and let them know that we will not tolerate the criminalization of poverty and anti-black legislation that they are attempting to ram through. If you are unaware of who represents you, then you can find out here. Call them and email them NOW!
Please let me know if you have any questions, or need additional information. I’m happy to chat by phone or email. And please do not forget to share this information with your networks! Thanks y’all. I’ll see you tomorrow!
