We were recently made aware that Mental Health Colorado got a 2million dollar ARPA grant about 6 months ago to buy the SAFER building (see image). Now they are selling the building and closing the program. So…
How is using 2mil in public dollars to buy the building for the SAFER program, and then 6 months later selling the building and closing the program using this public money for its intended purpose?
What is Mental Health Colorado going to do with the money from the sale of the building that will support SAFER continuing or at least support residents being kicked out?
We asked these questions of Vincent Atchity, the Mental Health Colorado CEO and await a reply.
As you can see in the description of the ARPA grant, this funding was supposed to be “used to purchase an existing building in Arapahoe County, which can serve as a permanent operational site for SAFER…and create a more secure environment for wrap around services.” Is closing the program just after getting this funding serving this intended purpose??
The residents of SAFER and the public whose tax dollars are being used here deserve some answers.
Read email communications with the CEO here and read statements from SAFER residents on why SAFER must be kept open here.
