Denver, CO. HAND Updates and Community Meeting

Hello Fighters for Rights and Housing!

We continue to hit the streets, shelters, ect and gather direction about our fight for housing. Last week we held our community forum on housing in Spanish gaining valuable insight on housing struggles for immigrants. This week we dive into in-depth interviews to gain deeper insight to housing priorities. 

Monday was the City Council vote on the Expanding Housing Affordability bills. Members of Housekeys Action Network Denver made up about a quarter of the 55 speakers at City Council last night. We demanded to be included in the proposed Expanding Housing Affordability bill which does not require any housing be made under 50%AMI. 

City council yet again voted to leave houseless people out of the bill and it passed 10-1. 

Candi CdeBaca was the only no vote, stating “This is smoke and mirrors, and we all deserve more than developer crumbs.” 

We will continue to make our cry heard. Housing is for all, not just for the rich.

This Wednesday our bi-monthly Housekeys Action Network Denver Community Meeting! These meetings happen every 2nd and 4th Wednesday at 4:30pm at 1420 Ogden St in the basement. There is food. All are welcome! Especially inviting all who are houseless, formerly houseless, or on the edge of being houseless!
