SWEEPS this week began on Tuesday 6/15 inside the area of Sherman, 5th, 7th,Grant and Lincoln. There was no cooperation or communication from DPD on Tuesday. Sergeant Brian Conover spent the entire time chatting up Lieutenant Mike Cody from District 3. Approximately 20 residents were traumatically displaced. Most of these folks moved 1-2 blocks from this location.
SWEEPS continued on Wednesday 6/16 at 34th Street, Arapahoe, 32nd Street and Larimer. Only one resident from this camp was assisted into shelter with a plan to transition into long term motel stay. Approximately 10 people were traumatically displaced.
Last but certainly not least we concluded the week with a SWEEP at 20th and Wazee with COORS FIELD in the backdrop. We can expect an uptick in the traumatic displacements of residents as we prepare for the All Star Game in Denver. Proving that Profit comes before People in our City. We witnessed 12 tents be destroyed and trashed!!! Approximately 25 people were traumatically displaced. GO ROCKIES!
SWEEPS don’t solve homelessness! Homelessness ends with housing. Until we can procure enough affordable, safe and accessible housing we need to plan for our unhoused! It is irresponsible not to! Everybody poops! We march onward towards Rights, Dignity, Housing….
