Denver, CO. DDPHE Board Meeting is Today Thank the Board for Demanding Answers from DDPHE about Sweeps and Encampment Health Needs!

June 10, 2021 by Jonathan Leave a Comment

In April the board of DDPHE asked DDPHE staff for answers to a series of important questions about DDPHE’s role in sweeps, the absence of sanitation resources, and what housing is available for residents of encampments. DDPHE failed to give meaningful answers to their questions and the board was upset. We sent the board this reply addressing their questions.

You can watch portions of the April Board meeting with commentary here.

Today the board will be meeting again and the public can speak at the beginning of these meetings. Sign up here to speak!

Thank the board for their questions and ask that they continue to play their role as the board to get DDPHE to do their job and protect public health through providing sanitation services to encampments and stopping sweeps.

What: Denver Department of Public Health and Environment (DDPHE) Board
When: Meets at 5:30pm on the second Thursday of each month
Where: Virtually follow steps on this link

https://www.denvergov.org/Government/Departments/Public-Health-Environment/About-Us/Board-of-Public-Health-Environment

How: Starting one week before every meeting, sign up using the form below; sign-up closes at 4:30 p.m. the day of the general public comment session. https://www.denvergov.org/Government/Departments/Public-Health-Environment/About-Us/Board-of-Public-Health-Environment

Key Points for DDPHE Board:

  • Thank them for their questions of DDPHE! Ask them to continue holding DDPHE accountable to their job.
  • Share your experience living without housing or supporting those without housing and the struggle to have basic hygiene needs like a place to poop or water to wash up.
  • Share your experience at sweeps and where people ‘move along’ too…
  • Ask the board to take action to get DDPHE to do their job and respond to health needs with health resources, not sweeping human beings putting them in more danger and harm.
