Approximately 25 people were forcibly and traumatically swept from their homes during the bitter cold. On Wednesday morning at 13th and Pearl, one resident had his tent cut open by city employees, who in the process of throwing away his home, discovered he was still sleeping inside. Horrific!!
Out of those 25 people, 3 received motel vouchers and 3 people were given a shelter bed. Not nearly enough. If there truly is additional space because of the cold temperatures then why were only 3 beds offered? And if it is cold enough to open up overflow, then isn’t it too cold to SWEEP? There’s also the fact that FEMA will cover 100% of the cost of motel vouchers. Why weren’t they all offered one? That costs the city nothing. The city continues its attack on it’s most vulnerable residents as we fight for Dignity, Rights, Housing.
