The Covid-19 pandemic has made it harder to do our annual Homelessness Marathon broadcast, but we’re doing it anyway! This next one (our 22nd!) will be shorter than usual (just four hours) and won’t originate from anywhere in particular as all of the hosts will be home-based.
The pandemic may have made it harder to do the broadcast, but it has also made it more necessary. More than ever before, the lives of homeless people are in danger, and more than ever before, housed people are in danger of becoming homeless.
The Homelessness Marathon is America’s only national broadcast focusing on homelessness and poverty. It is dedicated to creating a national dialog by bringing the voices of America’s homeless into America’s homes.
“For decades,” comments Homelessness Marathon founder, Jeremy Weir Alderson, “homeless advocates have been warning that what affects homeless people will eventually affect everyone. Now, here we are.”
The 22nd Homelessness Marathon would not be possible without the partnership of WMPG, community radio in Portland, Maine. We also wish to thank Pacifica Broadcasting for once again graciously allowing us to use their Audioport, which helps us make the broadcast available for free to non-commercial radio stations across the country.
