Denver Homeless Out Loud conducted a vigil outside the Denver City and County Building from October 14-17, 2020. In the early morning hours of October 16, 2020 members of DHOL, unhoused community members, and community advocates were awakened by Denver Police Department. One member of DHOL, Ana, was handcuffed and cited with a ticket for violating park curfew. Ana was not in the park, but walking down the sidewalk silently.
When the Denver Police Department arrived at 4 am, it was 32 degrees out. All of our unhoused community members were told to move along and moved their tents across the street. (They are now scheduled to be SWEPT on Thursday 11/12/20). DHOL and advocates had no choice but to remain standing on the sidewalk with no protection from the elements.
Next Monday, November 16, 2020 Ana has to appear in court for this ticket. Ana has contacted the National Lawyers Guild who will provide an attorney to represent her. If anyone would like to provide court support that morning and stand in solidarity with Ana, DHOL, and our unhoused community members, come to the Lindsey Flanigan Courthouse located at 520 W. Colfax Ave, Room #160 at 8:00 AM
