Sweep of Encampment at 22nd and Wazze Tuesday
After a week off for elections, the City is back at their solution to homelessness…sweeping people from block to block…
After a week off for elections, the City of Denver is back at it, planning to sweep the encampment at 22nd and Wazze on Tuesday (11/10). There are about 60 people living at this site. Most of these residents have been swept multiple times in the past couple months.
Instead of funding trash services for encampments like this one so they can properly dispose of their trash, City Council voted down this budget amendment on Monday and left it to the Mayor to keep sweeping people like trash instead of just sweeping trash.
Moving people who have nowhere to go with no answer does not work. It is time we start using our brains and our hearts, instead of continuing this shameful whack-a-mole.
Please come and support our unhoused community members at 22nd and Wazze and support residents of this encampment as they demand real housing or places where they are allowed to survive.
Bring the following things to assist residents:
-Truck, or any vehicle to help move
-Carts
-Bungee Cords
-Rope
-Trash Bags
-Food
-Coffee/CoCo
-Water
Your assistance is much appreciated! Somewhere around 6:30am and all morning help will likely be needed.
