The City is trying to justify the Sweep planned for tomorrow (Thursday) as a “health and safety risk.” Take a minute to email or call the Mayor or City Council to ask these questions:
• If this is about the “health and safety” of people without housing, why is the City telling people to go to a shelter where 170 people have tested positive for COVID-19 instead of staying safer in a separate tent?
• If this is about the “health and safety” of people without housing, why is the City not providing bathrooms, hand washing stations, regular trash collection, and showers for those living on these blocks?
• If this is about the “health and safety” of people without housing, why is every tent getting disrupted and displaced regardless of how clean it is?
• If this is about the “health and safety” of people without housing, WHERE IS THE HOUSING??

There are ways to maintain healthy, clean encampments but the City refused to provide the resources or even enable the community to use what resources they have to create sustainable sanitation resources. Let’s start investing in sustainable solutions, not sweeps.
